The rating along with related links are the difference. In other contexts, the image and name of the author of an article may appear, or the times and prices for an event.
Should you consider using microdata?
Probably, but only in certain circumstances. If the content in question concerns or contains:
- Creative works: CreativeWork, Book, Movie, MusicRecording, Recipe, TVSeries ...
- Embedded non-text objects: AudioObject, ImageObject, VideoObject
- Event
- Organization
- Person
- Place, LocalBusiness, Restaurant ...
- Product, Offer, AggregateOffer
- Review, AggregateRating
How to mark up content for rich snippets
